As an avid drinker of water because of my recent spout of cancer, it’s funny how it takes a kick in the shins to wake you up but that is how it works sometimes, I didn’t drink a lot of water, I thought I did, but in reality I didn’t. Because I needed to drink water I started experimenting with various ways to make water more interesting. It was a refreshing way to learn a new way to update the taste in water. When I started having a glass of lemon water every morning, you soon realize the benefits. It was only after learning a couple of benefits of lemon water, did I realize how many benefits there are with lemon water.
You should drink lemon juice first thing in the morning and then wait approximately 15 – 30 Minutes before having breakfast. Lemons are full of nutrients such as Vitamin C, B-Complex Vitamins, Calcium, Magnesium, Fibre, iron and Potassium. Lemon water helps boost your body’s immune system, you will also be able to fight off all sorts of types of viral infections. Lemon water will help with things such as a sore throat. You probably have noticed or rather are well aware, that most medications contain some sort of lemon in them, especially ones that help cure colds and flu’s during the winter season. According to the Canadian Cancer Society there are no concrete studies have tested the claims of lemon water. Drinking lemon water is often associated with liver health because it is a component of a liver cleanse or flush. Components of various concoctions say lemon juice with items such as Oils and Herbs, Epson Salts can help clean the liver from toxic substances that may cause your liver harm, hence improving the organ’s function and your overall health.
It has been suggested that replacing your morning daily coffee routine with a fresh warm glass of lemon juice will go a long way to making sure you feel alert and refreshed and all round healthy. Too many of us rely on our caffeine boost in the morning as our energy booster to make us feel super productive. Never apply lemon juice on your eyes for obvious reasons as it contains citric acid and will cause your eyes to burn and sting and general irrational however that been said Lemon water may have potential benefits for preventing things such has fungi and virus because it represents certain microorganisms and keeping your eyes nice and healthy in general.
Lemons are a source of potassium although it is relatively low. Approximately one lemon (juice and peel) contains approximately 156mg of potassium. Nutritionally lemons and limes are high in Vitamin C and are low in sodium and phosphorus.
Lemons do help in fight inflammation. A glass of water lemon water on a regular basis can help decrease the levels of acids in your body. By drinking lemon water, you will help prevent buildup of uric acid in your joints hoping with joint inflammation. Lemons do help reduce general inflammation in your body.
You guessed it, just drinking a few glasses of lemon water will obviously not benefit you much in weight loss. Lemons and lemon water can in fact help people lose weight indirectly. In many cases, thirst is often mistaken for hunger. Like myself and many people it is hard to just drink a glass of water, I find it incredibly difficult and just plain boring. Adding a lemon to water may lead people to drink more water which is essential for our bodies and stay better hydrated thus reducing our craving for food. The less food and calories we eat, the less weight we put on, just simple maths. Dehydration is also a slow metabolism which can lead to long term weight gain. Try drink a warm glass of lemon water when you hungry or thirsty before eating and give it 15-30 minutes before eating any food to reap the full benefits.
Lemons are a natural antiseptic
Lemons do have antiseptic properties in them and its antibacterial property is beneficial for the skin. Lemons contain compounds that have been studied for their effects on our Digestive Systems, Body Circulatory and the Lymphatic. Other uses for lemons can be used to sterilize the air, just simply add a few drops of lemon juice to a spray bottle. It can also be used to purify soy or rice milk, simply add two drops of lemon. Lemons in the past have also been used to treat things such as tension headaches, insect bits, and verrucas or asa lotion in sunburn. You may notice various sunburn products contain lemons.
